Mary earned her degree in Art Education from Drake University and has studied painting and watercolor at Delta College and the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Currently specializing in pastel landscapes, she has attended workshops in Chicago, Northern Michigan, Provence France, in Scotland with Elizabeth Mowry and has painted in the Southwest, Italy and New Zealand.

Mary is a resident and active member of the art community in Traverse City, MI and the nearby Leelanau Peninsula where she makes her home. She teaches pastel classes and workshops at the Art Center in Traverse City and surrounding areas and taught a workshop in New Zealand in 2007. She is the president of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, and on the faculty of The Art Center Traverse City.

Her award winning art has been shown in numerous jury exhibitions, one-person shows and is currently represented by Sheffield Gallery in Traverse City, MI, Northwood Gallery in Midland, MI, and Viola Gallery in Elk Rapids, MI. Her work is also available at her Leelanau Peninsula studio/gallery where she teaches small classes and mentors. Mary's paintings are in private, public, college and corporate collections nationwide. Her book "Look About You" was a northern Michigan best seller and a finalist for Book of the Year with the Great Lakes Booksellers Association. Her paintings have appeared on the covers of ForeWord Magazine and on the covers of The American Spoon Foods catalogs.
